VIDEO – “Encourage Yourself”

Encourage Yourself – Apostolic Faith Church in Chicago, Illinois pastored by Dr. Horace Smith, M.D.

READING –

Although there are thousands of Christian books out there, I am very critical about what I would recommend to anyone. My personal expectations are very high when it comes to what people say as ‘truth’ according to the Word of God. I feel that anyone can write a book, with a ‘feel good’ message, but is it scriptural? Do they tell you what they are saying is their opinions or is it scriptural? If it is their opinion, then fine, say so, if they claim it to be scriptural, then back it up. I also look to see if the message is in sound agreement to Gods Word.

I have read quite a few Christian books that people have recommended to me and although they enjoyed it, I found some had many erroneous errors and down right lies and could see even how some of those books could lead people astray. I think it takes a great responsibility to pen and submit works that the author claims to be scriptural. To me it’s no different than someone who preaches. They will be held more accountable for what they say, and write. Some parts in some books I read  I don’t necessarily agree with, in which may be minor, and I understand that as a writer each author has their own personal opinions. Some books are Christian Fiction, for entertainment only, while others may be for learning and study.

This book I enjoyed and found to be not only entertaining but also informative. There are other books by the same name, but different authors, and some pretty bad. Make sure if you search out this book it is by Edith Deen. There have been reprints of this same book by her with a different cover as well.

Book Description;

All the Women of the Bible offers a rich biographical perspective on evey female figure in scripture — including the famous, the little-known, and even the unnamed. In more that 300 engaging and insightful portraits, Edith Deen brings alive the saints and sorceresses, queens and servants, mothers and daughters, wives and widows whose profound influence is felt through-out the Bible.

Combining thorough detail with a lively and dramatic narrative, All of the Women of the Bible portrays the real women behind the Biblical stories and shows how, in their human struggles and triumphs, they are very much like the women of today. With each major biography identified by Bible chapter and verse and prefaced by a key passage of scripture, this is an ideal resources for teachers, Bible students, preachers, and writers, as well as anyone who wants to learn what it was really like to be a woman in Biblical times.

Here is a terrific book by Billy Graham – “The Journey”

It is a very good book for someone who is a non-christian, because it starts with the whole reason of sin beginning with Adam and Eve. It takes you through a journey of our love for God, his relation to man and how to find him and walk with him. I could see someone who dedicated their lives to bringing this message to people through his voice, leave his voice through his books to say what he may not be around to say. The whole point of what it means to being a Christian summed up in this small book. It is worth a read and basically Billy Graham says it like it is, no candy coating, and I for one find that refreshing.
