You Can Be Healed
In my previous blog, I wrote about those folks, who like to tell Christians, “Maybe their faith isn’t strong enough, that’s why they are not being healed. ” Not everyone will be healed, go here to read more on that article. It does not mean that they can’t be healed, if it’s in Gods will.
When a person sincerely prays for a healing, and their prayers don’t get answered, many assume that God doesn’t care. God does hear our prayers, and may have answered them. Maybe He gave an answer that we don’t want to hear. He may even be saying no, or not yet. Does He care that we have pain and afflictions? Absolutely, God does care and has great compassion for us. Many people think that God only cares for our souls and salvation but really doesn’t care about day to day things. That simply is not true, God cares very much what goes on in our lives, and wants us to invite Him into everything we do. The Lord shows in many ways throughout scripture his compassion and love for us.
The shortest verse in the Bible was when Jesus heard of the death of Lazarus, John 11:35 – “Jesus wept.“ He was told that Lazarus had died and the family and those around were weeping and heartbroken. Jesus understood their grief and had deep felt compassion for everyone who was hurting. Christ not only seemed concerned about what had happened, but the scriptures said he groaned in the spirit; he was inwardly and sincerely affected. Then nearby the Jews who saw Jesus, said, “Behold how he loved him!” The Jews must have thought they were related, because of the compassion Jesus was showing. Jesus, for the glory of God and the love of the people raised Lazarus from the dead.
When Jesus healed and preformed many miracles, he didn’t do it only to show people the gospel glorifying God, He also did those things out of love. Jesus saw all the disabilities, blindness and death around Him, and healed many. The ability through the great power of God to heal others, He extended to the disciples. After Jesus left, He told His disciples He was sending them a helper, the Holy Spirit. The disciples not only preached the gospel but followed Jesus’ example by healing and helping those in need.
So, how do we know that in todays modern times people can be healed? Because the disciples taught in the early churches what the members should do. We are told not all share the same gifts of healing, but through fervent prayer God hears and heals. Prayer for others, laying hands on others, fasting and prayer, and anointing with oils were some of the things they taught.
James 5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
We are told to pray for one another in faith. The above verses could also include the inward healing of the soul. Can we be healed even if we pray for ourselves and don’t have anyone to lay hands on us? Yes, because throughout scripture we see where individuals prayed for Gods help and He delivered.
Don’t doubt that God can heal you. Effectual prayer means ‘without wavering.’ I know many of us have heard stories on the television or radio talking about someone who had by the power of God been healed. Some people say, well, it must have been the medicine, or the power to heal themselves in their minds, like positive thinking. But to Christians we give the glory to God and say God did this. God blessed that person, that is faith and trust that God can deliver you from your affliction. We go to church every Sunday and if ever see a man who is in a wheelchair get up and run up and down the aisles. So for many today we believe that it just doesn’t happen that often and some believe God doesn’t do that anymore. We cannot place God in such a tight box that we start believing just because we have not seen it, doesn’t mean the all knowing and all powerful Lord still can’t do it. That is when the doubt sets in, and our faith made weak in Him. When God promised things to people in the Bible, sometimes it took 40 years. Sometimes things took 7 years, sometimes 3 days.
Our faith in God is so important, Jesus talked about it an awful lot. Jesus held faith to be extremely important. A woman from Canaan who’s daughter was ill followed and begged Jesus for help. Jesus’ first mission was to the Jews.
Matthew 15:25-27 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. (26) But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs. (27) And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.
Mat 15:28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
(1) She came to Christ under difficulties. (2) She persevered when her prayer seemed to be denied. (3) She still pleaded when obstacles were presented. (4) She waited at the feet of the Lord until he had mercy. Her faith was so great, Jesus blessed her and healed her child.
When we are afflicted and earnestly pray each day for a healing, we must first examine our relationship that we have with God. God wants to be involved in our decision making. He wants us to come to Him in prayer, faith, and an honest heartfelt love towards Him. We know that through our daily struggles, God loves us and has heard our prayers. We must believe that whatever we go through, God is aware and has a purpose and a plan for our lives.
Luke 4:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on Me; because of this He has anointed Me to proclaim the Gospel to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim deliverance to the captives, and new sight to the blind, to set at liberty those having been crushed….”
